In-person classes

Shoot and edit alongside me to learn my full Black Background Equine Portrait process from start to finish exactly as I do it for my clients!

In-person classes are offered in 1-day & 2-day courses and are tailored to the individual student. Classes cover session set-up, camera settings, using natural light, posing & angles, tips, an Equine Black Background Portrait editing walkthrough, and time for answering questions.

My classes also cover how to handle challenges, because let’s face it - the reality of being an Equine Photographer is that most of your shoots will NOT be perfect. Learning to make the most out of what you have in front of you in a safe and supportive, no-pressure environment will set you up to handle those situations with confidence.

Learning to work with horses well means being able to adapt when things don’t go to plan. Classes usually have 1-2 equine models who know the ropes and are easy to shoot, plus 1 greener horse, which will give you the opportunity to learn how to work with imperfect circumstances. If we run into “problems” I will show you how to handle those in real time.

I tailor each class around the student's focus so that you leave with applicable skills and images that truly reflect your goals. If students have a preferred discipline, I aim to have those models available during the class, if at all possible.

You will need -

  • A DSRL or Mirrorless camera, a prime lens or telephoto zoom lens (I recommend a lens 85mm or longer for best results).

  • A laptop with Photoshop & Lightroom ready to go.

Highly recommended, but not required:

  • A drawing tablet + pen ready to go. Any tablet with pressure-sensitivity works great. I will teach you how to hand-paint hair in this class.

In-person classes are limited to 1-2 students to ensure each student receives a tailored learning experience in a relaxed and supportive environment. In-person mentorships are structured to keep things replicable and easy to learn, however, Ashley teaches at a pace that best supports students as they learn. 

Out-of-state classes will include travel costs. Ashley currently offers In-person classes within the Southeastern Unites States. If you would like to request an out-of-state class at your location, please contact me for additional details and pricing.
